Kampfires, Dummerston Vermont Site A3 Rates $54-$70 per night. Passport America accepted, discounts for monthly stay.
This is a small campground in southern Vermont. Its location just off I-91 and Rte 9 make it a good stop for those traveling to New Hampshire and Maine.
Sites are a mix of pull through and back in. Most are big rig friendly and the roads also support large RVs. All sites are FHU and almost all are 50 amp. About half have cable with a decent lineup. WiFi is provided and speed is just fast enough for some streaming. You can upgrade to faster WiFi for a fee. There is also an airstream you can rent as well as an Inn so your non RV friends can join you.
This campground is popular with families as it features a pool, playground, mini golf, food truck and an ice cream shop. Staff will deliver wood to your site and the store sells snacks, wine and craft beer. During the busy season they have free live music on Friday evenings. The bathhouse is clean and there is a small laundry room with 2 washers and 2 dryers.
There’s also plenty to do outside the campground; covered bridges, hiking, bike trails and you can even see the house where Rudyard Kipling wrote the Jungle Book.
The staff here is great and when our truck crash happened they blocked off our site for us for the rest of the season so we didn’t have to worry about moving.
We stay here to visit friends and family but this is the kind of campground we’d stay at anywhere.
✅ Location ✅Amenities and services ✅Big rig access ✅Did we mention ice cream?
After 101 days, parts delays, a new frame and missed deadlines by a subcontractor, we finally have our truck back. Rick did a 60 mile test tow with some long 7% grades to make sure everything is working 100 percent.
The catch? There’s a gouge in the side of the bed that wasn’t there previously, so now we’ve got to take it back in at some point to have that repaired and repainted.
On the positive side, we can’t say enough good things about our body shop, Brattleboro Collision. We’d recommend them to anyone needing body work.
Definitely a cautionary story for full timers. If your tow vehicle or RV are damaged repair times and parts delays can destroy your plans. We were lucky that 1) we were in an area where we had family and friends to help out and 2) our campground, which is small and in high demand, could accommodate us for a couple extra months. If you’re near Brattleboro we highly recommend kampfiresvt. We appreciate their hospitality and flexibility.
